Every show at the historic Ryman Auditorium seams to have something special. Bring together two time Grammy Award winner Taj Mahal and 3 time Grammy award winner Keb Mo as the duo dubbed Taj Mo and you have something truly magical. Combined these legends of blues have been playing professionally for almost 90 years but they still fill the stage with as much energy and emotion as any of the young guns.
Opening the night was young Johtavious Willis who brought his own brand of new school blues to the mix. From Greenville, Georgia Taj Mahal is not shy about his thoughts on his talent "That's my wonder boy, the wunderkind. He is a great new voice of the 21st century in the acoustic blues. I just love the way he plays.” You can check out more of Willis music here.
As Keb Mo entered stage draped with his PRS, Taj Mahal came strutting in with his yellow shakers in hand kicking off the seemingly all encompassing history of the blues. Its hard to fathom the understanding of the genre these two possess. Songs ranging from fun front porch tunes to rip your heart and cry your eyes out ballads. But after all is that not the essence of the blues?
